Bakit? may dapat bang itago?

Thank you to your post that even if you are a student you understand the plight of the AMA teachers. I was a former AMA instructor and it was very taxing for me as my teaching load reached anywhere from 42 to 50 hours per week. My God, I would always be panting because of the very hectic schedule. Much as I wanted to give quality time to the lesson preparation, I could only do so much. The effect was being lousy, yes I admit that and I was ashamed at my students every time I would stand in front of them unprepared. I always felt sorry for my students who paid so much only to get so little. I can understand why students would say that the teacher is incompetent but how the heck can any person manage a teaching load like that without sacrificing any one subject?
In the submission of grades, we were most of the time not given ample time as a result, we used to start early in the morning and finish late at night just so we could make it on time. It's not even part the teaching contract that we signed.
Come pay day... "What! This is all that I get for sleeping late and starting the day early?" As compared to the load and the stress, the pay was not enough compensation.

I thought this problem only existed where I live, through modern communications I have found out that this is a nationwide affair encompassing the whole AMAES. Tsk tsk tsk don't they realize that the students are the lifeblood of any educational institution? I wish AMA would stop thinking only of profit and concentate on delivering what they promise.
They let me go without even telling me why? I didn't even break any policy, my documents were complete, all the requirements for renewal were complete. I don't know where I faltered. All those happened last year at a time when it was difficult to apply in another school as it was the middle of the school year. It took me some time to land a new teaching post in another school. I'm glad I'm out of there, I'm in a better place right now. I only pity those who (students and teachers alike) are still in there to be exploited for another trimester more...

as a former instructor of abe, i too have a few things to say regarding the way AMAES is conducting its "service" to the students enrolled in its various branches.

for one, i agree with anonymous. we were given 36 hours of teaching load per week. tuesdays and thursdays, i teach from 8 am to 6 pm straight.

now don't get me wrong. i love teaching. i love interacting with young minds. teaching is something of a family tradition and heritage. men and women from both paternal and maternal sides are teachers. but to require me to teach 36 hours a week just so i could be classified as a full-time teaching employee is absurd.

i've been in the teaching profession for more than 10 years. i've worked for some of the better schools in the metro manila area. in all these schools, the schools heads are all holders of doctoral degrees in educational management. but in abe (let's not name the branch), the only qualification for one to be appointed dean is to be a CPA or an MBA degree holder. the school director is more preoccupied with luring in more unsuspecting enrollees rather than improving the quality of education provided by the branch.

some of the students of abe*** can attest to the sad and sorry state of education provided by this institution. one instructor, supposedly a manager of a well-known restaurant chain, earned the ire of the students by being "creative" in her exams. according to her, she wanted to teach the students to "think outside the box." and so, her exams looked more like a the games and puzzles found in your favorite sunday newspaper.

field trips? that's another story that i'll get into next time...

pahabol lang po...

may permit ba talaga ang mga abe branches found in metro manila? pwede ba talaga silang magpa-graduate ng mga estudyante?

to all students and alumni of ama and abe, please react on this. you may have had the same experience while still studying...

a former student approached me to complain that she was allowed to graduate april of last year. she saw her name in the list of students who were cleared for graduation.

now comes the sad part. when she came back to get her TOR, she was informed that she has not graduated yet. reason, she still lacked credit for a few subjects.

sorrier still was the fact that she was getting her TOR because that was the only requirement she lacked for a job she applied for right after graduation. she passed the tests and the two interviews; all she needed was her TOR.

it got worse...when she brought the matter to the school director's attention, she was told to enroll the subjects, pay the corresponding fee and wait for her grades. she didn't need to attend the classes, she just needed to pay the tuition.

left with no choice, she enrolled the subjects and told her would-have-been employer the truth.

who was to blame for the mess-up?
